Burnaby RCMP Presenters: Andrea Alderson, Director Police Services & Tracey Rilcoff, PRIME Specialist
Description: After 13 years of using Versaterm systems, Burnaby RCMP initiated their first data purge, removing hundreds of thousands of files. Before that purge, they assumed that they had only accurate data; but, while preparing for their first purge they came to understand that any incorrectly coded event could lead to premature deletion or artificial extension of their files. To mitigate the risk of bad data, they developed more resilient practices. This workshop will provide you with excellent reminders to ensure your organization is doing all it can to ensure decisions based on data are reliable.

Statistics Canada Presenter: Warren Silver, National Training Officer
Description: With all BC agencies switching onto the latest version of the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey, Warren Silver from the Canadian Centre for Justice and Community Safety Statistics (CCJSS) at Statistics Canada, will lead a training of the new variables and changes. This includes new firearms variables, new cybercrime variables and changes to the hate crime variables. Warren will also be answering questions on all versions of the UCR and will provide an update on the upcoming UCR 2.5 which will include changes to collect Police-reported Indigenous and Racialized Identity Data (PIRID).
